The Upbeat Beatles Diary -
Spring 2008
Hi there - apologies for the long delay in updating the diary page but, as I’m sure you will appreciate, the band has been rather busy since the last entry!! In the meantime, they’ve been busy clocking up numerous air miles. Overseas engagements have included a wedding in Florence, a corporate function for Price Waterhouse Cooper at the InterContinental Hotel in Athens and theatre shows in Milan.
Other highlights closer to home have included the SOMEROCK 2007 Festival at Bridgwater, where the boys shared the stage with a U2 tribute band called US4U2 – big thanks to Daniel Smith for organising everything so well, in spite of the ceaseless downpour! Another ‘outdoor ‘event that the band really enjoyed was at Plymouth Albion RFC for the Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership – thanks guys. The boys have also played a further two shows at Bibis Restaurant in Leeds since the last diary update. Great food, great staff, great customers and a cracking atmosphere – what more could you ask for? Special thanks to the lovely Tracey (well, George and Ringo think so!)
Other prestigious venues include Fulham Palace and Haslemere Hall (where a certain F1 legend, Damon Hill, was amongst the audience). The show at Haslemere was a cracking night – a full house and everyone in party mood, really enjoyable. Thanks to all involved. More recently, the band played for the Chelsea Lodge at Portman Square in London. Here’s what the organiser, Greg Lunnon, had to say about their performance:
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for a great show. It's not often you see a mixed age group like that on their feet for 80 minutes, but they were and many as you know are pros! Your sound is truly authentic and hits a powerful spot, long may it continue. Hope we can work together again soon. Best wishes (and a big thanks from everyone else at Chelsea) – Greg.
Throughout this entire period, the band has had the privilege of playing at numerous weddings throughout the UK. They would like to thank all of the ‘happy couples’ who booked them for these special occasions. Particularly memorable are the weddings of Dave and Jo at Springfield House in Holywell, Alastair and Julie at Basingstoke Country Hotel and, more recently, Will and Emma at Notley Abbey near Aylesbury (the former home of Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh no less!!).
So, it’s onwards and upwards as ever. With trips to Bermuda and Czechoslovakia on the horizon, plus numerous bookings across the country (see ‘Gig List’), it looks as though 2008 is going to the busiest and most successful yet for the band – phew!
