The Upbeat Beatles Diary - October 2004

We really excelled ourselves this month! Not only were we the toast of the town in New York City, but also along with all of our other engagements we managed to find time to do a bit of a skit for GMTV with the legendary Tony Blackburn - nice work if you can get it! If you missed it, it involved Tony dressing up as a 'Beetle' (as opposed to a Beatle) and trying to get in on our act as we performed outside Abbey Road studios, a spectacle which had passing motorists turning their heads to do a double take which unfortunately resulted in a few minor accidents! Tony was great to work with, and we think we came out of it without making complete fools of ourselves - judge for yourself from the photograph in the See Us section of the website.

New York, New York - so good they named it twice! The gig was at the Westchester Country Club, which was where they filmed the movie High Society ('Who wants to be a Millionaire' and all that). We played our set in the grand ballroom to a rapturous reception and then were fortunate enough to have a few free days to explore the 'Big Apple'. One of the first things we did was to make a little Upbeat Beatles pilgrimage to the Dakota Building on John Lennon's birthday, and then onto Strawberry Fields in Central Park.

From there we headed back up to Scotland [following the success of our recent show at Lochgelly Centre Theatre, Fife] to headline the first music festival at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls in Oban. Our thanks to everybody involved for looking after us so well - hope to see you all again soon. We'd also like to thank everyone at all the other gigs over the last few weeks, including everybody at the Bloxwich Memorial Club, Thoresby Hall Hotel [Warner Holidays], and the Grayshott Social Club, for making us feel so at home.

By the way, tickets are still available for our shows at the Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth, Shropshire on 12th and 13th November (theatre box office: 01746 763257 or from us via the 'Contact Us' section of the website). We're just putting the finishing touches to a new album of Beatles songs, which will be available within the next few weeks.

Can we finish by thanking all of you who have taken the trouble to email us over the last month or so with comments about recent gigs - all of which we're pleased to say have been very complimentary. Please do keep your photos and comments coming! Signing off for now.
