The Upbeat Beatles - the premier Beatles tribute band in the UK

Relive the sounds and excitement of the 60's with this leading Beatles band...

The Upbeat Beatles Diary - June / July 2005

Hi folks, hope you're all okay.

What a summer this is turning out to be for the Upbeat Beatles! We're just back from a second trip to Algeria, which was even better than the last! The concert was at the massive Theatre de Verdure open-air arena in Algiers and the atmosphere was electric!

Once again, a large thanks to everyone at Radio Algerienne El Bahdja for allowing us to promote the concert live on air, a HUGE thanks to Omar and Karim at Organic Music for booking us (and their incredible hospitality) and, most of all, thanks to all of you who came along to the show - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We've had some great emails from some of you who were there - please do keep them coming. It looks as though it won't be long until we're back!

The band were slightly delayed on the return flight from Algeria which meant they only got to the gig at Hitchin Priory by the skin of their teeth, so a big thank you to the sound guys at that one for making us sound so good without the chance to do a proper sound check!

We're very fortunate to be so busy and have played numerous times since the last diary update. Arden School in Solihull was a very enjoyable gig for us, as was the gig at the HSBC sports ground Beckenham for Steve Wehrl - cheers Steve! Thanks also to everyone involved with the Penwortham Town Carnival for making the event there such a resounding success!

However, without a doubt the most memorable event we've been a part of in the UK in recent weeks was our appearance on the roof of Sheffield City Hall! Here's a slightly edited version of what was posted on the City Hall website following our performance:

'The beat returned to the heart of Sheffield City centre on Thursday 09th June as the Upbeat Beatles performed on the roof of Sheffield City Hall to announce the venues reopening dates.

The venue, which closed its doors last May for a much-needed refurbishment, will open again to the public for a festival week starting on Tuesday 11th October.

The Upbeat Beatles were on hand to let music lovers know the dates the beat would return to the city in memory of the Beatles performance at the City Hall in 1963.

David Thornton, Head of Marketing for the City Hall said: "The Upbeat Beatles performance was simply fantastic.

"We felt that the opening dates were of great interest to the people of Sheffield and we wanted to announce these in style."

Passers by were certainly shocked to hear music coming from the venue again and when they saw the UK's premier Beatles tribute band performing on the roof they couldn't help stopping to see what was happening!

Finally, please note that tickets are now available for our show at the Corn Hall in Cirencester on Friday 14th October from Cirencester Tourist Information on 01285 654180. In addition, tickets are also available for our show at The Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth on Friday 11th November from the theatre box office on 01746 763257. If Cirencester and Bridgnorth are too far away for you, why not come along to see us at The Thame Leisure Centre on Saturday 19th November? Tickets are available from the leisure centre on 01844 215607.

Bye for now....
