The Upbeat Beatles Diary - July 2004Hi all, and welcome to our new website feature. This is the first entry in the band diary, which we'll be updating on a regular basis, quite how often will probably depend on what news we have to report, although things have certainly been moving up a gear or two for the Upbeat Beatles since we put this website together, so the good news is that interest in the Fab Four would seem to be at an all-time high despite the fact that it's almost 35 years since they disbanded. As well as making the diary a regular feature we will soon be including an email address for you to leave us your details so that we can let you know about up-and-coming events and get some highly valued information from any of you that have caught our show recently. We would love to know your thoughts on the gigs, what the highlights were and what tracks you'd like to hear next time we're in town. Another area we'd like your help with is with photos of the band, because judging by the amount of flashlights that have been going off at gigs, you guys must have masses of pics of the band on stage, and it would be great to regularly change the pictures on the website with a note saying where the gig was and some comments on what you thought of the show. Another feature to look out for will be the chance to purchase online any Upbeat Beatles merchandise i.e. T-shirts, badges, stickers, mouse-mats, key-rings, programmes etc. that you didn't get a chance to buy at a gig. Watch this space! The past month has seen a lot of activity within the band. It looks as though we might be off to Canada and the Lebanon later in the year, and we're already booked to play in Ireland, Scotland and a host of other venues throughout the UK. Colin [a.k.a. George] is in the process of moving house at the moment, but if he doesn't get his act together he may end up being a 'wandering minstrel' for a while - it wouldn't be the first time! Ringo and his wife [Paul and Ange] recently celebrated the first birthday of their little boy James. He's a bit young at the moment but it might not be long until he's competing to take the place of his dad at the drum stool. John and Yoko, otherwise known as Roger and Chris, managed to get away for a few days to Barcelona earlier in the month for a well earned break, and John [McCartney] Wilson has been managing to get into the studio to work on some new tracks. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for taking such good care of us at gigs recently. We're glad we managed to play 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' perfectly in synchronization to the firework display at the end of the gig on the boat on the Thames and we're pleased that the weather was so fantastic at the 'Annual Festival of Fun' in Basildon - lets hope we can repeat it again next year. Special thanks to the two police officers who allowed John and Colin to go 'on their way' despite the fact they were racing across the Isle of Wight to make the last ferry! Thanks to Susannah for all her hard work in the office and for keeping us organized, and to our sound guys Mick and Tony for all their good work. Lastly, thanks to all the audiences that just keep making the Upbeat Beatles concerts better and better! Click here to return to the most recent diary entry |
